5 Prison:
Matt has been kept hostage in one little room exiled in the big house. No one has come to see him not even Celia. Each day Matt experiences one human interaction. That was his tormentor Rosa. The doctor will come to visit every once and a while just to make sure that Matt's wounds are healing properly. While the doctor and Rosa are in the same scene we see the two of them having a kind of scandalous relationship. The doctor has let Rosa know that she must take proper care of Matt or someone will be brutally punished for it. He also mentions that he won't be coming around as often due to Matteo Alacrans poor conditions. This enrages Rosa she believes that the doctor should be spending all of his time with her, instead she takes it out on Matt. Rosa has one main word for Matt and that is a filthy animal, which Matt has become quite accustom to by now. One day Rosa decides that since he is and animal he will live like an animal. She has the garden workers build him a pen and fills his entire room with saw dust. She believes this will keep him from getting dirty and being a messy clone (just like the chickens). Matt has gotten used to only seeing Rosa and the Doctor from time to time. He has stopped talking all together and started to become somewhat delusional. He plays with bugs and has buried all food and other items into separate piles under his sawdust pen. One day one of the kids comes by. It was Tom, Tom is the devil child out of all of them and Matt is not looking forward to this encounter. Tom starts to shout mean names to Matt and throw things at him. With all of the built up anger built inside of Matt he finds a rotten tomato and dead on hits Tom square in the face. This is where Tom and Matts real hate for each other starts. When Matt is finally in the dumps and figures that none will come for him Celia and Maria show up! Celia is in shock that she has left "mi vida" in such poor conditions. She takes Matt and tries to explain to him that she was told that he was with El Patron (Matteo Alacran). She knows exactly what she will do to rescue him from such horrible living conditions too. Once Celia and Maria leave Matt is surprisingly calmed. He has gotten into such a habit of keeping himself entertained, and not being loved that, that is how he feels his lifestyle should now always be.
Middle Age 7-11
6 El Patron:
On a normal morning Matt is rudely awakened by the familiar screaming of Rosas voice. As he lays under his perfect pile of saw dust Rosa drags him up from out of the heap. She drags him through the house to the bathroom where he is given a bath. Rosa makes sure to scrub him until he has turned pink and not one morsel of dirt can be found on him. Rosa then makes sure to dress him in the best clothes that she can find for him. The next thing you know he is then being dragged across the courtyard to another big fancy building. This is El Patrons Building. When they finally arrive to the meeting that has been called for Matt Celia explains the living conditions that Rosa has put him under. Rosa denies everything and tries to get the doctor on her side but the doctor will not be dragged down by Rosa so he lies and says he had no clue. El Patron is furious and has Rosa sent away. When Matt and El Patron make eye contact they are immediately attracted to each other in a strange way. El Patron keeps Matt all day giving him an endless amount of cookies and sharing stories with him. El Patron then becomes tired and has to be carried off to his afternoon nap. Celia takes Matt back to their new apartment held in a building that is attached to the big house. Matt becomes very happy and relaxed again being in a familiar surrounding. Maria makes sure to visit Matt quite often and this also makes Matt a very happy camper. One thing that has angered Maria very much is the fact that Matt has lost his inability to talk its not that he refuses to but he had gone over 6 months without saying a word. Celia always reminds Maria that Matt has to get back in the swing of things and he will eventually come back around. Later in the week El Patron announces that he will be having a going away party. Matt and Maria get ready together and show up to the party together. At the party El Patron makes an announcement that Matt is his clone. He then strikes his fear into everyone by stating that if anyone is to harm Matt in any shape or form they will be severely punished. Everyone is afraid of this because El Patron is a very powerful man even though he is quite old. Before El Patron is carted off to take another nap he makes sure that someone will be keeping an eye on Matt at all times. He lets Matt chose between his own two body guards. Mat choses the big bald and scary guard because he is drawn to his eyes. He describes them as being kind and gentle (Tam Lin). Tam Lin takes the rest of the day carting around Matt.
7 Teacher:
While Matt was kept in captivation he had increased interesting facts about things he had learned but had decreased his brain function in school related subjects. Matt is starting to warm up to Tam Lin and really likes him a lot more than expected. Maria has visited multiple times since they have rescued Matt and becomes increasingly angered with him because he will not respond to anything he says. Since Matt's education has decreased they have hired a tutor for Matt called "teacher". This teacher is a very up beat and friendly teacher, but there seems to be something a little bit fishy about her. Every day that the teacher visits she has given Matt the exact same things to do. Matt then becomes frustrated with her treating him as if he is a baby. He has become fed up with everyone treating him as if he is not the same as everyone else, and that is when he snaps. His voice breaks through and he yells at the teacher while Matt is exploding with anger Tam Lin rushes to the teacher to comfort her. The teacher is very freaked out and seems as if she doesn't quite know how to react. She then gets up appalled by the boys behavior and refuses to ever come back and teach Matt again. Matt has finally discovered his voice! he is so excited and it is the first time he can formally introduce himself to Tam Lin. Later that day as a reward for Matt's new improvement Tam Lin takes him out on a ride through the poppy fields with the eejit horse and they go for a question filled picnic.
8 The Eejit in the Dry Field:
Matt has never really been outside of the big house so going on a picnic with Tam Lin was a really big reward. He was so excited to be outside and experience all of the smells, and sights. Matt was also overly excited about riding the horse, as they rode through the field Matt asked question after question to Tam Lin. When traveling through the fields Matt gets his first glance of the eejits working in the field (which he knows nothing about). As they ride along and get closer to their destination Matt spots a man lying in the grass. Tam Lin acts unsettled and upset while seeing the man. Tam Lin tells Matt that they must leave the man there and it is to late to help him. Later Matt figures out the man was dead. When Tam Lin and Matt arrive at their destination Tam Lin instructs the horse to drink. Tam Lin explains to Matt that it is an eejit/safe horse. Any type of eejit does anything its master tells it to, this is because they are programmed that way. The boys decide to take a long walk through the secret oasis that Tam Lin has found. Tam Lin showed Matt to the giant boulder that had a perfect little hole through the middle. As they sat on a rock Tam Lin gave Matt some water and beef jerky. It was the most delicious thing Matt had ever tasted before and he couldn't believe how beautiful the oasis was. As they sit in peace Matt then brings up the man lying in the field once again. Tam Lin becomes angry with this. "I forget. Kids your age don't know anything," said Tam Lin (78) He explained to Matt that the man in the field was most likely an eejit worker. He told Matt that the safe horse was the same as the same as man. Matt didn't quite understand what he meant by that. Then Tam Lin told him that an eejit was someone or something that had been brainwashed. They were all programmed to do one thing and that was obey their master. Matt was horrified by the thought of someone having to tell someone what they could and couldn't do. Tam Lin then ended to say that the man had probably wandered out to far to hear the boss instruct them to get water. This bothered and disappointing Matt, he couldn't believe that someone could do that to human beings. He stops Tam Lin from going to far and explaining all of these horrible stories. The conversations stop and Tam Lin starts to talk about the oasis in which he found when he was younger. Matt and Tam Lin then decide to go and explore the land along the way Tam Lin teaches Matt about the plants, animals, and how to survive off the land. Towards the end of the day Matt had learned so much from Tam Lin and asks him to be his new teacher.

Overview- Chapter 1- 4
Summary
Youth 0-6
We are introduced to our first character; Eduardo. Eduardo is an average lab worker. His job is to specifically take cloned embryos and inject them with "life". The batch that Eduardo has been assigned to work with is giving him a strand of bad luck. Out of a handful of embryos half had died one after another except for one. Lisa the senior technician of the lab went on to reassure Eduardo that it wasn't his fault it was just a very old bunch of embryos (over one hundred years) but some of them should end up surviving. This feedback from Lisa then gave Eduardo some sense of hope. Months went by until the one special day; the day the embryos would be implanted into the brood cows. These cows weren't just any cows they were cows specifically in the lab to use for wombs of these soon to be babies/clones. Eduardo was having trouble keeping calm and had a very hard time sleeping at night. The one thing on his mind was the though of having to be sent to a place called the farms. The day final came when the one embryo had survived what was now an infant. After the infant was born Eduardo went on doing his job and like every other cloned infant it had to be injected with a certain element. Lisa abruptly tells him that this particular infant doesn't need to be "fixed" it is the one and only Matteo Alacran. "They are always left in tact." pg (4)
2 The Little House in the Poppy Fields:
In this chapter we have now switched our perspective to the current time period of Matt in his early development. We first see Matt standing in his caretakers house named Celia. Celia is leaving for work just like every other regular day. Today also like every other day Matt is giving her a hard time for leaving him alone in their house. Celia always reminds Matt that he must stay home because it is safe there and he must keep himself hidden. Matt didn't care how big of a tantrum he had to throw he hated being all alone all day. Celia kneels down and gives Matt a kiss "don't cry mi vida." pg (6) Celia is off for work at the big house where she cooks meals for a big family all day. All day Matt would switch from reading his favorite book Pedro el Conejo, to looking out the window at the glaring white fields (even though he was supposed to stay away from them), to watching people on tv. After grabbing some snacks Matt decided to go to his favorite part of the house and that was Celia's room. he played with his stuffed animals and became angry after awhile because he knew they weren't real people. He was sick and tired of being couped up in the house. Suddenly Matt is surprised to hear children's voices coming closer and closer to the house. Who could it be he thought? The children then poked there head at the window and peered in one by one. There was four of them and they were all asking Matt questions. Matt didn't know what to do he sat in the corner of the house like a petrified mouse. He had never seen anyone other than Celia and he knew that he was given specific instructions to stay away from windows and the door. The kids kept prodding him to play and come up to talk, but Matt could not move he was in shock. After little entertainment from Matt the kids decided that they would venture back home and visit Matt another time to see if he would come out of his shell. Matt felt exhilarated to know that he had met knew people, he was also nervous in an odd way. When Celia came home he would not tell her of what happened only because he knew she would be furious and find some other way to keep him locked away from people. Celia had come home later that night and actually decided to make some food. Usually Celia did not do this because she was so exhausted from work. Matt sat at the table playing with the new crayons and coloring book that Celia had brought back for him. After dinner it was time to go to bed. Matt wanted to know more about the kids that had stopped by later and knew they must have belonged to the house that Celia worked at due to the fact it was the only house around. So he asked Celia for his bedtime story the story he wanted was about the kids in the house. Celia explained thoroughly which each were like mostly Matt heard "brats". He heard about Steven and Benito the brothers they were very devilish little things, and the two sisters Emilia and Maria two very well mannered but spoiled girls. As Matt fell asleep that night the gears in his mind ticked as he created a plan that would most likely make the new children want to be friends.
3 Property of the Alacran Estate:
Just another day of Celia heading off to work except for this day Matt could not wait for her to leave so he could meet up with his friends. As soon has she had walked out of the door and out of sight Matt planted himself in front of the window. Matt started to give up hope as the sun had started to set when all of a sudden he heard their voices. He stayed planted in front of the window until they came. The kids walked up to the window and started talking to Matt once again he froze.. The little girl Maria was the most interested in Matt and she kept pleading for him to come play. When Matt would not move or speak or make any gesture for that fact the kids became annoyed. Matt immediately saw the dismay on their faces. He didn't want them to leave he had been waiting for this moment for so long. He then tried to make the kids laugh with an old cartoon that Celia had pasted on his wall. The kids laughed and Matt knew that he had their attention. Not for long however the kids started to ask Matt why he wouldn't open the door to come out. What the kids didn't know is that Celia locked them from high up above so Matt wouldn't be tempted to leave. The older kids Emilia, Steven, and Benito started walking back through the poppy fields when Matt did something drastic. He took a giant cooking pot and threw it at the window. With a big bang the glass shattered everywhere. This got the other kids attention so they came running back. Before they could warn Matt not to come out because all of the shards of glass he was out the window. Matt was severely injured with cuts every where on his feet and hands. Before he knew it he was passed out and the kids were carrying his bloody limp body through the fields.
4 Maria:
The kids have finally carried Matt all the way through Opium fields and arrived at their house.The kids started screaming for the maids until the head maid Rosa comes out in shock. She finds the bloody Matt and carries him to a safe and secret place in the house. She finds a couch to lie him down on. As she is trying to clean him Mr. Alacran comes in to find the boy he then figures out that he is a clone and orders Rosa to throw him out in the grass. Later that day while Matt lays in and out of consciousness the main doctor for the house is appalled to see they have thrown the child out on the lawn. He harshly reacts to Mr. Alacrans judgment and explains to him how important it is to keep this boy safe (it is Matteo Alacrans clone). The doctor finally properly takes care of the boys foot and sends him off for some good rest. Later in the day Matt is brought a meal from the little girl Maria. Matt seems to really like Maria she is around the same age as he is and they end up sharing a lot in common. In the night Maria sneaks into Matts room in the middle of the night to talk to him. Matt shares stories with Maria and they stay up all night talking. Until Matt tells Maria a little bit to scary story that leaves her staying in his room all night. Which once again reassures Mr. Alacrans hate for the clone.
